Jihye Jang Wins Venice Opera Competition in New York City
New York, NY — February 3, 2026 — Soprano Jihye Jang has been named the winner of the Venice Opera Competition, held Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Opera America in New York City.Fifteen finalists advanced to the final round of the competition, presenting operatic arias before a professional panel of judges. Jang was selected as the top finalist and awarded the $1,000 First Prize for her outstanding artistry. The competition was presented jointly by New York Vocal Productions and Venice Opera, reflecting both organizations’ shared commitment to supporting emerging operatic talent and creating meaningful professional performance opportunities for singers. “We were thrilled by the overall level of artistry,” said Brent Douglas, Artistic Director of Venice Opera. “Jihye Jang’s performance stood out for its musical clarity, expressive depth, and technical command. Competitions like this affirm the vitality of the next generation of opera singers.” The Venice Opera Competition is part of Venice Opera’s broader mission to foster professional development for singers through performance, mentorship, and collaboration, while building bridges between regional and national opera communities. New York Music Productions is dedicated to creating professional performance opportunities for singers, fostering industry connections, and supporting artists as they invest in their training through lessons, coachings, travel, and auditions. Biography
Soprano Jihye Jang, a rising star from South Korea, is a lyric soprano who has established herself as a compelling presence on the international operatic stage. Her 2025–26 season marked a pivotal achievement with her widely praised role debut as the title character in Ferruccio Busoni's Turandot with Mannes Opera at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. She made her professional operatic debut as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte at the Korea National University of Arts in 2021. Her remarkable vocal artistry has garnered top distinctions at leading international competitions in 2025. She was awarded The Albert Sherman Memorial Award at the Opera Index Competition and emerged as a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (New York District). She also received the Dr. David DiChiera Encouragement Prize at the Premiere Opera International Vocal Competition and achieved finalist placement at the Viotti International Vocal Competition in Vercelli, Italy. Additionally, she was named a finalist at the Giulio Gari Competition in New York, where she earned the Grant Award. Jihye earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Korea National University of Arts, where she studied with soprano Haeran Hong. She is currently completing her Master's degree at the Mannes School of Music, where she studies with Arthur Levy and Joshua Greene.
