Venice, Florida now has its own opera company. Founded by conductor Brent Douglas, Venice Opera launches its inaugural season with a concert series of performances and community talks. Next season, the company will celebrate the Centennial of Venice with a full production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
“We have a fantastic ensemble of performing arts organizations in Venice — a symphony, a theater, a concert band, and chorale — and we’ve needed our own opera company,” says Douglas. “The demand is there, and Venice has become a new hub for the arts.”
Douglas, who also serves as Artistic Director of The Venice Chorale, has featured guest opera singers in recent seasons to enthusiastic audience response. Their popularity sparked the vision for Venice Opera, an organization dedicated to both performance and education.
